Fall General Season
« on: September 13, 2010, 12:32:15 PM »
Just to confirm, it is OK to hunt turkey during fall seasons even if you didn't get 2 birds in the spring.  Is that right?

See you in the turkey woods this Fall Doc!  Should be plenty of birds to pursue.

Thanks for the clarification on the rule.  My son and I are still looking for our first bird so we plan to do some more driving and sitting in hopes of finding one this fall.  Not sure what to really expect different from our spring efforts?

Make sure you check the regs carefully as many of the popular eastide units are "beardless only" for the fall hunt.

Regardless of how you did in the spring, you are allowed two beardless in units 105 thru 124 plus 1 either sex in about a dozen other units (101 Sherman, Mica Peak, etc) --- check the fall hunting regs (you can even do that on line at the WDFW /hunting website.

Turkeydancer,

Thanks for the help.  What I was initially confused by was the WDFW wording:  "Hunters who harvested two birds in eastern Washington during the spring CAN participate in fall turkey seasons."  I was 95% sure it meant that hunters who didn't harvest 2 birds could also participate but just wanted to double check. Thanks.

It will be my first fall season at trying this so didn't want to get a ticket before getting a turkey.

In the spring, you can basically get 3 birds (2 birds eastside and 1 bird westside; note - Klickitat is considered eastside for turkey hunting purposes).

In the early fall season, no matter what happens in the spring, you can still get the 3 birds mentioned above.

Then in late fall (from Nov 20th thru Dec 15th), you have been allowed to take 1 additional bird of either sex in units 105 thru 124, no matter what you did in the spring or early fall.

That's 7 birds you have the chance at each year ...  not saying that I agree with the current expanded harvest, but that is what the state allows.

Good luck ...
